To do that, you will need to pass the MA exam based on the NREMT EMT-B exam. The EMT-B exam is a computer adaptive test (CAT), meaning that, as you progress through the test, the questions you receive are influenced by your performance on previous questions. The exam contains 100 questions, and you will have a maximum of 2 hours to complete it.

Before taking the certification exam, you must meet some requirements, including having successfully completed a state-approved Basic EMT training course based on the NHTSA National Standard Curriculum. You must also be 18 years of age or older, and have passed the state practical exam prior to taking the cognitive exam.

Massachusetts also require prospective EMT-Basics to be healthy, drug-free, and hold current certification as a Health Care Professional, Professional Rescuer or hold a BLS-CPR or ACLS certification (approved courses available from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council)
